My midwife is actually writing a research paper on it. Up to 1/3 of the baby's total blood volume can be in the placenta. If the cord is clamped too early the baby won't get a full transfusion. Also the baby will get all of the stem cells which are believed to prevent Leukemia. Those were my main motivations.

This made me cry! What a beautiful birth story. I have always wanted a homebirth and part of me is sad I didn't have one with DD. This reaffirmed just how much I want a HB with #2. Congrats mama. I love the pics!

Thanks! I love that pic too! And yes he was set on catching her but when we had the scare of not finding her heart tones my midwife kind of stepped in because she thought she was going to have to perform CPR on her. He was a little sad but we were all just happy that she was okay. He stuck by me the whole time
