Once Upon a Child?
Is it worth selling clothes to Once upon a Child? Does anyone know about how much money they give for items? We are expecting #3 and don't know the gender, probably won't find out until its born. However, we are short on money and I was considering selling our stash of childrens clothes to pay down the dreaded c/c debt. I am just not sure if it is worth it. Opinions?

Re: Once Upon a Child?
weeeelllll...it depends. In my experience it
1.pays more than a garage sale 2. if you have gymbo/gap/RL clothes you'll do pretty well 3. any stains or spots and they won't take them, but may take just the pants if it's part of an outfit. 4. It saves so much time! I cannot handle the process of selling on ebay. 5. I don't know how much you have, but we probably had 3-4 totes of nice clothes (mostly gymbo) and got around $150-$175. I felt like it was a good deal for what it entailed, but if you're trying to make $1,000 or something it probably won't happen. 6. They don't take much 0-9 month stuff. They get a ton of it so they just take a few outfits from each person to keep up stock. They did take all my gymbo outfits in that size though...just not my carters stuff. HTH

Re: Once Upon a Child?
It is the easiest and most convenient way to sell clothes.
They only take name brand clothes where I am at, and I usually get $1.00 for tops, $1.50 - $2.00 for jeans. I sold to them one time, I made alot more selling on ebay.

I think it depends on where you are. I usually do pretty well there. I've sold a lot there. I usually get around $70-$80 for a plastic bin of clothes/shoes.

Re: Once Upon a Child?
Maybe just take 10-20 pieces in and see how it goes. You don't have to sell. You can always walk back out. That would probably give you at least a basic idea of what to expect if you took in more items.
I love the one in my area. Things are truly new/to very gently used and they seem to have a quick turn around on most items I also think that they are very picky about what they take... But, one in another town doesnt seem as picky. Probably depends on the store and who is looking at the clothes that day.

We sell to them occasionally. One time they took very little, we made about 40. The next time, dh accisenrlu grabbed the wrong tote-the one that had been refused by them in the precious trip...we actually made an additional 50 off that tote. I was very confused by it. I think it depends on the worker too. We are very pleased sometimes with what we get and others quite disappointed. The most we have ever gotten is 197 from 2 totes...2 totes is there limit at our local store. Those totes were full of 12 -24 month including Xmas dresses, shoes and 2 Columbia jackets.

Re: Once Upon a Child?
When I sold stuff to them, I got less than what I was able to get from a "twice a year consignment sale" or on craigslist. I was only getting like 50 cents a shirt or pants. It totally wasn't worth it to me. However, once I did buy two of those playhut things at a garage sale for a couple bucks and they gave me $20 each for them. But I find selling on CL is better, and it's free and local. That said, I find selling at a twice a year consignment sale like JBF gives me more for name brand clothing, than CL or garage sales. I set the price, and I receive 70% of the asking price....that's a lot better than the once upon a child stores that only gave me a buck for something. A gymbo outfit at a JBF sale would go for between $10 and $25 (and you get 70% of that). To me that's a HUGE difference. But then again, they are only twice a year, and may not be in your area.

Re: Once Upon a Child?
I'll probably go through all our clothes and decide what they are worth to me. I might pull out a pile to take in and see what I can get. If the offer is decent I can take it if not I can hang onto them until we find out the gender of baby #3. Its worth a shot! Thanks for the replies!

Re: Once Upon a Child?
They pay very little. I have much better luck selling at garage sales and the consignment sale (JBF). I made a ton of money doing garage sales 2 years ago but it is a lot of work. The consigment sale can be a lot of work too taging stuff but JBF has it set up so you can tag all year long and then it is ready to go for the sale....although I always tag last minute.
