Working Mama's who CD...

I'm pretty new to CD-ing but am totally in love with it. I'm a SAHM who also has a photography business and a 3.5 yo and a 3 month old. The other day I asked my mom (merely out of curiosity) if she thought I was crazy for cloth diapering. I expected she'd say yes you're crazy as h*ll! But she didn't...she said, "I think it's great that your CD-ing, because you have tons of time to take care of it."

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!! I have a 3 month old and a 3 year old and a husband with (unmedicated) ADD, and I am the cook and maid and personal finance guru (of our house), and I have "tons of time"? Am I off my rocker to be offended?

Are there any work-outside-of-the-house mama's out there that "have the time" to cloth diaper?

Re: Working Mama's who CD...

My DD is potty trained but I CDed her from 7 months old until she potty trained and I worked outside of the home and went to school part time. It doesn't really take that much time does it? lol. To me it was just another load or 2 of laundry, not a big deal and DH worked too and he would help with diaper laundry and he liked the CDs too.

Until recently, I worked 40+ hours per week, cleaned, cooked, etc., and I CD'd. Once you get into a routine it's not very difficult.

same here. really i do have the time do cd. it takes less time out of my day to wash/fold diaper laundry than it does to bundle them all up and go drive 20 min to the store to buy more disposibles really. I can do laundry while doing other stuff but not really so with sposies. add in: single mom of 3

Re: Working Mama's who CD...

I am a nurse and work rotating shift work 36-40 hours a week and I find the time to CD, cook, clean, balance the household budget, run here and there with/for the kids, etc.....and I hav a 6yo, 4yo and almost 2yo, and we are soon going TTC #4 again ... you do what you want to do, and I want to cloth diaper!

Re: Working Mama's who CD...

I didn't CD DS who is 3 and potty trained, but we are CDing DD who is 9 weeks old. I work 32 hours a week and DH works 20 hours a week. Like you, I also am the maid, cook, and the accountant. I don't the CDing really takes that much more time. What I do love is the fact I'm saving money and not putting chemicals against my LOs skin. I do have friends that poo-poo me, but I feel good about it, and have become addicted. I make the time to CD. It's just a matter of doing maybe one more load of laundry each week.

I don't know if I'd say you were "off your rocker," but it sounds like you were expecting to be offended either way. Why would you ask your mom what was a loaded question that you were bound to be offended by any answer she gave you?

And to answer your final question:

I work outside the home 3 days a week. Before DD potty trained, we only CD'ed part-time (and I have to admit, we used sposies a lot). Now that DD is daytime trained, we are back to cloth full-time since we only get two dirty dipes per day (nap and bedtime).
