Re: Worry about baby sleeping on stomach?
Both my kiddos are belly sleepers. Im def not a firm believer in the belly sleeping sids stuff... anyway that's a whole diff topic. I too put Tyler down on his belly... pretty much from the start as it's what I'd done with Bailey... he sleeps about 10 hours straight at night and is EBF... and gaining 2 lbs/ month! He's obviously most comfy this way. I put nothing in the crib.

Re: Worry about baby sleeping on stomach?
![]() There is more to sids than *just* tummy sleeping.... it is really one risk factor among MANY.. it's not like "if you put your child to sleep on their tummy, they will die!" If you make your child's sleep area as safe as possible (firm mattress, no blankets, pillows, stuffed things, etc) and your child is physically able to turn themselves over, the risk of tummy sleeping contributing to sids should be considered negligible. That said, DD slept better on her belly from the beginning.. whether than was sleeping on our chest or in her crib, she's just been more comfortable that way. I did worry at first, but I stopped worrying as much once she was able to roll over (and like her big brother, she learned to roll BACK to FRONT before the other way!) Even now that she's 100% capable of choosing whatever position she'd like to sleep in, 95% of the time she's still on her tummy... otherwise she tends to be on her *side*. I've seen her sleeping on her back by her own choosing like twice... so obviously it's just not something she tends to do.

Re: Worry about baby sleeping on stomach?
My mom put all eight of us to sleep on our bellys, and we all made it. LOL Like a PP mentioned, it used to be recommended.
I would examine all the other risk factors involved (i.e, prematurity, if there's smokers in the family, b/f or bottlefed, etc.) and then see what you think. If tummy sleeping is your only "risk" and your babyproof the crib and your little one can roll over...it's your call to make, but you're probably safe. It's really up to your comfort level, I think...and how determined your child is!
