Yomama the reason you use a smaller needle is the waistband will stretch with wear and tighter stitches retain their shape better. It will still be functional with a drawstring but not as snug fitting as time goes on.

Yomama, I like to use dpn's for the waist, do you have any of those?

Not yet but I will definately pick some up! Seems to make a lot more sense than buying so many different circs as I will need the dpn for the cuffs anyways, right? Have been scared and intimitaded by them but have learned so much lately that I am ready to take the plunge! Thanks again!

Ug, I think I found out where I went wrong,

after I binded off I continued to knit and purl back and forth all the way around and not stop after so many stitches, how many should there be for the flap on the large? I don't remembering seeing on the pattern where it says to only knit so many. It has been days since I've pick it up due to frustration and being super busy.

43 stitches for a total of 44 on your needle with the stitch you had left after binding off. The large is the numbers in green in the parenthesis for each specific count.

I understand the frustration, I've been there many times! Before you frog the whole thing, there's a video on knittinghelp.com that shows you how to insert a circ into your work so that you only unravel to that needle so you could insert the needle above where you BO stitches and then just start over there.

I follow a celtic pagan tradition and I'm becoming crunchier by the day. I enjoy knitting, sewing and making things with my hands.
