Do you let your toddler wear clothes with sew-on buttons?

DS is 16 months and finally big enough for some shirts that my in-laws bought for him! Some of them have buttons sewn onto them (button-down shirts -- super cute!). Should I be worried about choking?

Do you let your toddler wear button-down shirts (or any clothing with buttons on them)? These buttons are pretty small... you know, usual shirt buttons. your thoughts are appreciated!!!

ETA: yeah, I know this is kinda random...I even made DS some overalls with bigger buttons on them, but he'd only be wearing them if I'm around. That's a good idea to take off any buttoned clothing for naps!

I do if I'm going to be with her. I take them off & switch them for a sleeper at nap time though & if we're going anywhere she'll be with anyone else (like church), I put her in something else. HTH!

DS has several polo style shirts with sew on buttons, as well as a few pairs of shorts with sew on buttons. i have never even thought about the choking hazard before i saw this but all the buttons are really small on the shirts he has, and the buttons on the shorts are all very very well attatched.

Yes. I've had more snaps come off in my life time than buttons on baby clothes.

I do. My in laws brought some really cute t-shirts back from a vacation they went on for DD. One has a green starfish made of buttons and the other has a pink seahorse made of buttons. Theres probably about 10 buttons on eat t. She plays with the buttons but has yet to try to eat any. She's 17 months. I keep an eye on the shirts though to make sure no buttons are loose.

Yeah, I do. Of course, this time of year, 9 times out of 10, he's walking around in a prefold and nothing else, or maybe a t-shirt with it. LOL It's summer here already!

Re: Do you let your toddler wear clothes with sew-on buttons?

Yes. I don't stress about it. If a button is obviously loose, I fix it or toss the outfit (depending on how "fixable" it is for a non-sew-er).

DS, who is 10 mths right now, wears clothing w/buttons at least 2x/wk (he's usually in t-shirts and woolies, but does wear overalls, polos, or button-downs on a reg basis). It's not a big deal to me. If a button is coming loose, I'll know.

The kids are more likely to find a button on the floor from MY/DH's clothing than they are to pull one off of their own clothing. (The first has happened 3x, but they've never pulled off one of their own!)

I've never even thought twice about this until now. So, yes, my kids wear clothes with buttons, even when they are young.

Never really thought about it, he wears them all the time. But he doesn't put things in his mouth. he picks up all kinds of things and has always brought them to us (guess it helped to freak out the first and only time he put a nickle in his mouth).
