That's us, except for the constipation part. Elizabeth snarfed down her first bowl (6mths) and then didn't want it any other time. Then when I read about the enzymes I gave her meat and veggies. We have Crohn's in our family, and one of the beliefs is that an early diet high in sugar and starches can cause Crohn's. So once I learned that you didn't have to use cereal, I passed on it.
At 7 mths we offered veggies (green beans and asparagus and squash) and meat. Then 8 - 8.5 months I offered her oatmeal.

We started with carrots. No particular reason - seemed like a healthy safe choice and we started at lunch time . Rice ceral was the first cereal and I think is was the 3rd food we introduced.

we started with poi, it's the perfect texture, and has much more nutritional value than RC. Then we went to green beans, peas, squash, avocado, then banana, apples & peaches. the only thing Cameron didn't like was the apples. All homemade btw -Amber

Re: First Foods - Veggies vs. Grains

my first 2 kids started out with bananas.
We had tried rice cereal but they didnt like it until later on.
we never had any problems with them not eating their veggies once they started on those

Sorry to hikjack! DS hates avocado! Do you mix it with anything?
Oh, I started with rice and then all the other grains. Then fruits and veggies.

Re: First Foods - Veggies vs. Grains

I started w/rice cereal b/c it's the most benign, bland stuff out there. I wanted to make sure she was alright w/solids since she started at 4 mos.

Re: First Foods - Veggies vs. Grains

We started with organic yogurt at 6 months sweetened with formula (I had BM issues) and then went with the advocado and banana, then moved to some veggies (asparagus was his fave for the longest time- go figure). I didn't do any kind of grain/cereal until DS was over a year. My herbalist/nutritionist suggested this route for us- and it worked incredibly well. She said that babies systems weren't designed to handle grains so early because of the enzymes needed to digest them.
Good luck!!
