Similar long road trip post! 11 month old who hates the carseat!

I will be driving by myself with 2 possibly 3 kids, 11 months, 3 yrs and 5 yrs. It will be an a total of 16 hrs, but I will be stopping at my dads after 11 hrs. I can't decide when to leave! If I leave at night so they can sleep I am really afraid I will have trouble staying awake. The baby is still fully nursing so I know I will have to stop every 3-4 hrs to feed him. Any suggestions??

Do not leave at night if you're worried about passing out! My dad did that once and I had to take over the wheel! So not worth it.
No matter what time of day you leave it is going to be difficult keeping kids cooped up in the car that long.
I say leave early enough in the morning that you are there in time for the kids to eat dinner and crash.

We drive at least 14hrs every few months with DD. We have made that drive since DD was 3mo. When she was nursing, we stopped when she needed to eat and we would take a break at a rest stop or gas station, do diaper changes, stretch, let the dog go potty, etc.

As she got older we didnt have to stop as often but we still tried to stop at at least every other rest stp so that we could use the bathroom and all of us could get out and stretch.

Make sure that you have plenty for them to do. Plenty of movies, books, toys etc. I know that soft toys are better for car travel, but sometimes, that just isnt as practical as we would like. DD plays with barbies, color books, magna doodle, learning laptop, I spy games, etc. I try to have quiet games so that DH and I dont get distracted.

I always have plenty of extra drinks and snacks for her too.

We usually drive through the night mainly because DH is used to that schedule since he works nights and is awake. I sleep while he drives and then I drive when it gets light out.

If its just me driving, I get a good nights rest and then leave earlier in the AM so as to miss the main traffic areas at rush hour times. I have music on that keeps me going and I stop if I feel a little sleepy. I never drive longer than 8 hrs straight though. I cant do it, so I stop after about 5-6 hrs and get a hotel room. There is no way that i could drive for 11 hrs.
