Re: S/O: Crazy things your neighbours do to their house/yard/possessions

Down the street from our house, someone ripped up all the grass on their front lawn and put down mulch. The. whole. front. yard. It looks so silly.

When we bought our home, the previous owner was a gardener. He even won yard of distinction in our town. Anyhow, we are NOT gardeners and over the two years we had lived here it just got worse and worse. Like embarassingly worse, you would have to be tending to it constantly to care for so many plants/ beds. Anyhow, last summer we ripped out the vast majority of it and created a much more scaled down yard, with a lot more grass. It was seriously weeks and weeks of work but it looks so much better now. I joke with my dh and my bil that we own our duplex with that we've been voted the neighborhood's "most improved yard" award.

At least no one walks by and shakes their head in disapproval like they used to.

OMG...that lawn looks gray. He really should have spent a little more time on it and painted individual blades of grass, a dandelion here and there, maybe an anthill...at least make it believable!

My old neighbor used to cut his lawn with manicure scissors around his sidewalk & driveway.

My mom did this with hedge clippers because she couldn't wait for DH and me to get out of work and mow our yard for my sister's baby shower, which we were hosting. Then she complained her hands hurt.

EDIT: Pic added! Thank you GoogleMaps for not forcing me go out and take one myself!

I wonder how many weird neighbors are wondering why so many "weird" mamas are running out to take pics of their yards today! Yes thank goodness for Google maps lol

Hedge clippers wouldn't be bad but I mean actual fingernail manicure scissors. Every 2 day without fail for the 5 years we lived there even in the winter!

Funny looking at the concrete front lawn picture, I was thinking to myself "that could be in Vancouver" and then I saw it was... Used to live in Van, too and when we lived in Burnaby lots of people ripped out their entire lawn (front and back) and replaced it with concrete. Talk about easy care... Why not live in a condo or townhouse then?
