Our Neighbor Brought Us Some Shark....
And I'm not sure how to prepare it. I've been looking online for different recipes, and I know to soak it in milk to get the ammonia out (sharks pee through their skin...who knew?), but I just don't know HOW to cook it.
We don't have a grill and the recipes I'm finding call for grilling it. Anyone know? Is it kind of like cooking salmon (they look like similar meats)? The grill thing is throwing me off.

Found this recipe for baked shark.
This recipe for battered and fried. (This says to soak in salt water unless frying, then use milk) This is for oven fried. This one is Baked Cheesy Shark Surprise. HTHs!!

Re: Our Neighbor Brought Us Some Shark....
I've had shark baked and also shark fin soup. It's delicious! You can cook it just like any other fish.

Re: Our Neighbor Brought Us Some Shark....
Grew up on the Gulf here.. so we eat everything sal****er, including shark. PPs are correct, soak in a light brine or milk to remove the ammonia. Also cut away any existing dark meat from under the skin or laternal line (you might not have this depending on the cuts you received), as this dark meat can have an unpleasant taste. After that marinate and grill, bake, or fry. I love all the 30 minute marinades, especially the herb/garlic ones, for fish...plain ol' italian dressing works well too! Shark meat is very lean, so it can become dry if you are not careful cooking it. Bake or grill it, just until it is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork. Marinating overnight before cooking will help keep it moist, especially if you use an oil based marinade. You want to approach cooking shark, just as you would venison, since they can both become very dry if over-cooked.
