Anyone else have a ....

family members who just aren't with it? My 20 something cousin had her first child 2 weeks after my baby was born. My little boy is 5 months and almost 3 weeks old. She just posted this on her FB...well m*baby and i didn't end up at the park, we just went for a long walk. Then when we got back v* (her SIL), p*, l*, m*(baby) and I went out for ice cream it was m*(baby)'s first time eating it. it was so cute!!

I must not be "with it" either if your aggravation is over the baby eating ice cream. I'm fairly positive all of our kids had ice cream at around five months or so. Everybody gets to do with their kids what they want. I can sure think of things a whole lot worse. If this is not what this post is about I apologize.

Wow.. that is very young to be giving a baby ice Cream!!!

But I'm mommy to only one child and I was terrified to feed her that stuff too young. I was afraid it'd somehow like permanently cause diet problems or something- and yes I know I over worry and that its fine.. now she has too much ice cream sometimes!

I would never give ice cream to my babies and I would be upset if a family member gives ...not at that age.
After 1 year, a taste here and there is ok I guess.

Eh, I've given my ds "tastes" of things (including ice cream) here and there since about five months, I guess I don't think its too big of a deal. (my dd had a milk sensitivity so I was more strict with her).

I dont think it should happen on a daily or even weekly basis but a first time little bit wouldnt disgust me if I saw it. It could be MUCH worse!

We have a milk allergy that runs in the family. Sorry, should have said that is what I meant. 1. not good for them and 2. there is a known family allergy.

Re: Anyone else have a ....

Sorry to disagree with some of you others, i think it's totally wrong to be giving a 5 month old baby ice-cream. For starters, they shouldn't really be eating any solids yet, but if they are, they should be eating cereals or fruit or vege purees, definitely not dairy products at this point! We also have a milk allergy here, I think around 9 mo I gave my daughter little tastes of ice-cream, before I found out she was allergic to it. But yeah, really you should wait until at least 7 or 8 months to introduce any dairy products and then it should be cheese and yoghurt for a while first, as they're more processed/ the milk proteins broken down since they're cultured. So yep- I would also think 'get a clue!' if I saw somebody giving their baby:
1. sugar-loaded
2. full of preservatives and additives and colorings, thickeners, emulsifiers
3. dairy-containing
ice-cream!

well you can't be sure that it wasn't just a tiny taste. I agree that it wasn't the best idea though.
